In 1937, Chen Zhen, a young Chinese man, is studying in Tokyo. He learns that Huo, his martial arts master, died in a fight under mysterious circumstances. He decides to return to Shanghai, partially occupied by the Japanese. Fighting his master's opponent, he understands that the latter could not have defeated him fairly. With the help of Huo's son, Chen Zhen and his Japanese fiancée investigate.
