At the end of summer 1930, two bodies were recovered off the coast of the village of Esperanza, Spain. A few months earlier, American singer Pandora Reynolds had captivated the hearts of all the men in the region. Following a bet, she becomes engaged to Stephen Cameron, a British race car driver. One evening, Pandora spots a yacht anchored in the bay and decides to swim out to it. There, she meets its owner, Hendrick van der Zee, who is none other than the legendary Flying Dutchman: a man condemned to wander the oceans for eternity until he finds a woman willing to die for him.
